CALL FOR PAPERS

THIRD INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF MARITIME HISTORY

Fiskeri- og Søfartsmuseet
Esbjerg, Denmark
3-5 August 2000

The International Maritime Economic History Association hereby issues a call for papers for the Third International Congress of Maritime History, to be held in Esbjerg, Denmark, 3-5 August 2000.

The Organizing Committee is anxious that all relevant strains of maritime history be represented. To facilitate this, it has decided that the backbone of the programme will consist of parallel sessions concentrating on chronological, regional and thematic topics. Optiomally, it would like these to be organized in collaboration with existing scholarly associations or networks. Therefore, the Organizing Committee at this time would like to solicit proposals from groups or individuals interested in organizing a session or who would like to suggest a topic or theme for inclusion in the programme. BRIEF proposals of about 500 words, indicating the central theme(s) to be explored and the main sources and methods to be employed, along with a one-page curriculum vitae of the participant(s), should be sent by 31 March 1999 to:

Professor Lewis R. Fisher
Department of History
Memorial University of Newfoundland
St. John's, NF A1C 5S7
CANADA
tel.: +1 709-737-8424
FAX: +1 709-737-8427
e-mail: lfischer@morgan.ucs.mun.ca

Participants in Esbjerg are expected to give first rights-of-refusal to the Association's journal, the International Journal of Maritime History.

The Organizing Committee will also give maritime historians who do not wish to organize a session an opportunity to present a paper in open sessions.
